I couldn’t help it…being so wrapped up in campaign mode, I HAD to wear my political buttons on Halloween!
So I went as a Spin Doctor.

Fun times.

Young Democrats Getting Out the Youth Vote
SACRAMENTO – The Young Democrats of America’s Young Voter Revolution campaigns are mobilizing the youth vote across the country. Between now and Election Day, Young Voter Revolution teams in California will contact thousands of young voters to ask them to pledge for Democrats on Election Day and then we’ll make sure they turn out to vote.
The expectations for the youth vote are once again high, but the Nay-Sayers are already at it. Senator McCain’s political director, Mike Duhaime, recently told reporters that he does not believe the data shows that young people are changing the electorate. Well, the California Young Democrats will prove him and all the other Nay-Sayers wrong.
In person, peer to peer outreach is the basis of our program. Young Voter Revolution campaigns target young people at their homes and hangouts by using both door to door canvasses and street teams. YDA targets young people under the age of 36 in areas where the youth population can swing key elections. Young Voter Revolution campaigns also employ new media, particularly SMS text messaging and interactions on social networking websites like Facebook.
The CYD Young Voter Revolution campaign office is located at 1825 Pacific Avenue on Stockton’s Miracle Mile. CYD is running intense Get-Out-The-Youth-Vote operations all around the Northern San Joaquin Valley, which include precincts in Congressional District 11, Senate District 5 and Assembly Districts 10, 15, 17 and 26. Our campaign is also focusing on defeating Proposition 4, which is a threat to teenage safety, and Proposition 8, the anti-marriage initiative.
Predicting a large young vote can be traced back to the record-breaking participation of young voters in the 2008 Democratic Primary. Over 6.5 million young people participated in the primary, an increase of 103% since 2004. In California alone, close to 900,000 young voters participated in the primary. It is also clear that young people are voting for change. On Super Tuesday, young voter ballots favored Democrats by more than a 2:1 margin.

My roommate Jenaye and I ran the NIKE Women’s 1/2 Marathon. Half a Marathon is a lot of running. But it was for a good cause we each raised $2,400 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
As you can see we ran all around San Francisco!

This was my first time running in a half marathon and I ran in honor of cancer victims and survivors through the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. My BIG run was so meaningful and so much fun!
We were exhausted by the end:

I ran on Team Trevor in memory of Trevor Knott. Trevor was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia two days after his birth. Unfortunately Trevor lost his battle with this disease. To read more about Trevor and the road he and his family have been through go to www.trevorkott.com. There have been many blood marrow drives held in his honor and there will be more. Getting tested to see if you are a bone marrow match is no longer painful, it’s a simple cotton swab in the mouth. Find out more here: http://www.marrow.org/HELP/Join_the_Donor_Registry/Join_Now/join_now.html?src=text
Here we are mid-race:

“The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education, and patient services. The Society’s mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.”
My friend Natalie (a Capitol fellow in 2007) recruited a bunch of her friends to be part of a “made-for-youtube Ad to support the campaign”.
So a bunch of us went to Berkeley on October 12th in our college sweatshirts to shoot the ad.
Here it is!

Use Your Power - Vote Obama!
October 10th weekend CYD went Camping…AND Canvassing for victory in Caswell State Park.
It was two nights of Camping and two days of peer-to-peer contact to elect Democrats in the final weeks of the campaign in the Northern San Joaquin Valley. We canvassed precincts with 25% or more youth density.
No, we didn’t burn any big pieces of artwork, but we did have a great time.

Here Gabe our Campaign Director explains to our volunteers how to canvass:

I planned a Presidential Debate watch party hosted by Birthright Israel NEXT at Luigi’s pizza in midtown Sacramento. My intention for the party was so we could cheer on our favorite candidate and mix and mingle with Young Jewish Professionals from the Sacramento Valley. Over 50 people showed up and we had a lot of fun!

Participating Organizations:
-Birthright Israel NEXT
-Hillel’s JGAP-Jewish Grads and Young Professionals
-NextDor: Jewish Young Adults of NorCal
-Sababah: The 20-30-somethings of B’nai Israel
-UC Davis’ Jewish Alumni Association
-Young Democrats of America Jewish Caucus Sacramento Chapter
-Bay Area Tribe
