The California College Democrats are sponsoring California College Students to work on Jim Martin’s Campaign to become the next Senator from Georgia.
Sacramento, CA - Over the past few days, college students sacrificed their Thanksgiving Breaks and instead flew to Georgia to campaign for Jim Martin, as he attempts unseat Senator Saxby Chambliss. California students are working night and day to stop Chambliss from returning to the U.S. Senate. Some students are knocking on doors in Georgia, making sure Georgians turn out for Martin; while other Californians are making calls on Martin’s behalf from their dorm rooms. “The energy is incredible out here,” said Charlie Carnow, Political Director for the California College Democrats, “it’s clear to me and the other California students on the ground in Georgia, that like the rest of the country, Georgian’s are ready for change.”
The youth vote was integral to Barack Obama and Democratic Senate candidates’ success this election cycle. According to Tufts University more than <http://www.civicyouth.org/PopUps/FactSheets/FS_08_exit_polls.pdf> 3.4 million more young people turned out to vote this cycle. Moreover, young people by almost 2 to 1 margins voted for Barack Obama. This overwhelming support for Barack Obama was the margin of victory for Obama in states throughout the country.
“College students worked tirelessly to get Barack Obama elected; now that the American people have resoundingly supported Obama, college students will work to ensure his agenda is not stopped in the Senate, said Nick Warshaw, President of the California College Democrats. “College students know that Senator Chambliss will stonewall and attempt to halt Barack Obama’s agenda for America. A vote for Jim Martin is a vote for Barack Obama and his vision for change.”
